At Chiro Adelaide we believe in offering patients a holistic approach to their health and provide a range of therapies, which include:

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic care is based on the natural laws of homeostasis, where the body will continually try to maintain good health and wellness. The nervous system plays a big part in this process, as it relates to how well the body functions. Certain stressors to the body can interfere with this delicate process, such as when spinal bones over work or overcompensate for any number of reasons, such as with falls, stress, tension, overexertion, injuries and any other chemical, physical or emotional stress. These stressors can lead to abnormal function of both the spine and the nervous system. Chiropractic works to encourage the natural “self-healing” processes of the body, by applying minor adjustments to specific areas of spinal joints and peripheral joints.

How Does it Work?

Chiropractic concerns itself with the integrity of the human frame.

The original chiropractic philosophy was that nerve interference (pressure on the nerve) could occur if the spine was out of alignment (subluxation). However, we now know that it is more complicated than that.

Cortically (our brain) has a picture of our body and how it is working, the muscles the joints and even the organs. The clarity of this picture can be distorted if the body is sending poor quality messages back to the brain, this can happen due to trauma, chemical or emotional stimulus.

Our job is to assess the body and determine if there is an area which is not working properly. We usually use a detailed history to give us an indicator of the overall health of the body, our examination then focuses on posture and joint movement. These 2 areas are where we can have most impact. Chiropractors use adjustments to improve posture and joint range of motion and this generally results in improved messages being relayed back to the brain with the patient experiencing less pain and improved health.

However some cases are very complicated and the combined approach with other health professionals is required to establish normality of the physical body. Sometimes the chemical and/or emotional systems are also at fault and we then need further input from other specialised practitioners, such as general practitioners, specialists and psychologists.

A chiropractor can be an integral part of a health care team, resulting in better outcomes for the patient.

Your First Visit

On your first visit, the Chiropractor will perform an initial assessment. This will involve a series of medical, orthopaedic, spinal and neurological assessments, depending on your current needs and requirements. A typical assessment will take approximately 30-45 minutes. Gentle “adjustments” may or may not be performed on your first visit, depending on the findings of the assessments. From time to time, you may be referred for X-rays to determine the state of your spinal health.

Is Chiropractic safe?

Chiropractic has been known to be safe and effective. All of our Chiropractors are university trained and have obtained double degrees, with their Masters in Chiropractic over 5-6 years. All of our Chiropractors engage in regular professional development courses to maintain and update their skills, in line with the latest research.

Dr Amy is trained in dry needling and joint kinesio-taping techniques. She uses kinesio-tape (called Rocktape) and is qualified to refer for foot leveler orthotics (for stabilising the foot, spine and pelvis).
